“Tradition” by Heavenly Beat // Talent (Out 7.14.12 on Captured Tracks)
From where I sit, the Beach Fossils crew have snagged the MVP awards for the first half of 2012. Be it with their own material or split into the off-shoots of DIIV or Heavenly Beat, it seems like everything that they touch turns to gold (sweet, golden ear candy). Here is a new track from the forthcoming full length from John Pena’s Heavenly Beat project. “Tradition” once again flows on a dreamy tropical vibe that feels as indebted to 80’s dream pop acts (Cocteau Twins, the Cure) as it does to the modern balearic pop scene (jj, Air France). The somber chopped synths that build into the kinetic strings toward the end is especially a nice touch. Highest recommendation. I can’t wait for the full length.
